Financial assistance is available to CSTM students who attend professional and academic conferences as a way to further their graduate and professional research initiatives and professional formation goals, and to represent the school on the local, national, and international level. 聽Both the Clough School of Theology and Ministry and the Graduate Student Association offer opportunities to fund conferences and research for qualified students.聽

Center for Christian-Jewish Learning: Scholar Research Grants

The Center for Christian-Jewish Learning Junior Scholars Research Grants support Boston College graduate students pursuing research that is of value to the field of Christian-Jewish relations. Grants may support recipients' production of articles, book sections or chapters, conference presentations, digital materials, translations, or other scholarly resources. Research grants are one-time awards of $1,000. Up to five research grants are awarded each academic year and each summer. Please take advanatge of the聽. Ford Foundation Fellowship Program: Stipends Available

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is accepting predoctoral, dissertation, and postdoctoral applications for the 聽for Achieving Excellence in College and University Teaching. The Ford Foundation seeks to increase the diversity of the nation's college and university faculties, to maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and to increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students.聽Email the Ford Foundation聽with further questions and to submit applications.

Applying for conference funding

Students interested in conference funding聽are encouraged to apply for conference funding through the聽.聽Information on how to apply is available through their聽website. Please take careful note of sensitive deadlines.

After a student has applied for funding through the GSA, they may apply for conference funding through the CSTM's Individual Conference Grant.


CSTM Individual Conference Grant (ICG)

The CSTM鈥檚 Individual Conference Grant (ICG) program, funded by the Office of the Dean and the CSTM Student Forum, is designed to supplement the Individual Conference Grant program of the Boston College Graduate Student Association (GSA), and to offset costs associated with scholarly research and conference attendance that are not directly funded by other agencies, schools/departments within the university. The CSTM Individual Conference grant is capped at $1500 for the total reimbursement amount of all qualifying conferences during a student鈥檚 degree program.聽Requests should be made 30 days in advance if possible; funding cannot be guaranteed for requests made after a conference.聽 听听

How to apply for ICG funding

  1. Awards are granted to CSTM students in good standing whose participation falls within two general categories:聽(1)聽conference attendance, or聽(2)聽conference presentation.
  2. Eligible students in these categories must submit聽an聽Application Form听迟辞 Ellie Mears.聽 Ellie will forward the application to the ICG committee, appointed by the dean, which decides whether to offer the student funding based on the merits of his/her application and the tier to which the student is applying ().
  3. Students must provide proof that they have actually attended or presented at the conference for which s/he is requesting funding. For conference attendees, this can be done by submitting proof of registration as well as a program from the conference. For those presenting at conferences, this can be done by submitting a conference flyer, advertisement, or program that mentions the presenter鈥檚 name as well as the title of his or her presentation. Original flyers, advertisements, or programs are preferred.
  4. In order to receive reimbursement for travel expenses, applicants must meet the requirements of聽the Boston College Travel Policy. Please note, however, that the CSTM conference funding program does not reimburse for meals.
  5. If approved for funding, the applicant must submit a聽聽with the original receipts to Ellie Mears within two weeks of returning from the conference.聽In order to be reimbursed, students will need to provide proper proof of payment for all charges. Proper proof of payment shows the method of payment on the receipt, for example, "Method of Payment: Visa XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-1234" or cash. If it does not say this, screenshot of the bank statement showing the charge is necessary (with any other transactions on the statement redacted). For air travel, the receipt of ticket purchase along with the boarding passes are required to be submitted with paperwork.
